Our Mission

Empowering communities with sustainable solutions is our mission. We focus on rebuilding in a greener way by using fewer resources, incorporating recycled materials, and minimizing waste. Our goal is to transform how we build, ensuring a future that is better protected from the impacts of climate change.

Our Ethos

KONTi is building a future where sustainability is central to every living space. We began with the goal of creating sustainable, cost-effective solutions for communities. By using shipping containers as the foundation, we’ve constructed homes, schools, and multi-use spaces that are resilient, self-sustaining, and can be quickly deployed.

The Team

Our highly skilled team—experts in architecture, environmental engineering, environmental construction management and biomimicry—are the ones behind the scenes turning your dream into a reality.

Carla Gautier

Founder & CEO
BSA, M.Arch, Dr. (h.c.), LEED GA

I'm a third-generation architect from Puerto Rico dedicated to community and sustainability. I earned my BA, M.Arch and later my Dr. (h.c.) from WIT in Boston, focusing on eco-friendly design. My work and studies took me to Berlin and Benin, where I learned about sustainable construction.

I returned to Puerto Rico in 2017, just before Hurricane María hit. Working as a FEMA construction inspector, I saw how bureaucracy slowed recovery, which led me to start KONTi Design. Based in San Juan, we build sustainable, resilient homes from recycled materials like shipping containers and structural steel. Our hurricane- and earthquake-resistant homes range from affordable to luxury. We also achieved the first LEED Platinum Single Family Residence in the Caribbean, proving eco-friendly construction can be profitable for owners.

I was also selected as a CNN Champion for Change, a Grist 50 Fixer, and Forbes 30 Under 30, Re-Generation Future Leaders Fellow.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, swimming, sailing, scuba diving, and anything ocean related. Traveling to get to learn from other cultures is one of my favorite ways to spend my free time.

Lead Architectural Designer
BSA, M. Arch

Michelle N. Telon Sosa is an Architect in Training and the Lead Architectural Designer at KONTi Design Build Studio. Her passion for blending architecture with environmental preservation began during her studies at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus, where she earned a Bachelor's in Environmental Design (2016) and a Master's in Architecture (2018). Michelle is an active member of the Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajista de Puerto Rico and NCARB.

Under the mentorship of Architect Oscar Marty from 2015 to 2017, Michelle focused on urbanism, social housing, and environmental design, contributing to the development of modular and affordable architecture. She co-authored the article Vivienda Asequible, published in the Centro de Excelencia Académica Magazine.

In 2017, Michelle worked with the non-profit organization Para la Naturaleza and the School of Architecture on the Map of History: A Preliminary Inventory of Puerto Rico’s Historic Sites and Districts in the Aftermath of Hurricane María. This project deepened her understanding of how design and construction can be improved to withstand environmental challenges. She also contributed to the research and restoration of the Glorieta Fabian at UPR-RP.

During her master's, Michelle served as a Teaching Assistant in Technology and Building Systems, where she honed her leadership and teaching skills. Her thesis, Los principios de la biomímesis aplicados en la arquitectura, explored using biomimicry to create sustainable architecture in Puerto Rico.

Beyond architecture, Michelle’s interest in technology and design software led her to teach video game design. This role keeps her connected with emerging technologies and design tools that can be integrated into her architectural work.
